The Engineering Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) is a competition that the University runs in partnership with Loughborough University. During the competition researchers present a business plan for an imaginary start-up company to a group of savvy investors and industry experts. It offers a first team prize of £2,000 and various other cash prizes, which you are free to spend as you wish. A team from Nottingham won the competition last year and you can see their winning presentation at mms:\\wirksworthii.nottingham.ac.uk\webcast\gradschool\Eng YES 2010\Snurf_final_Pres.wmv
During the course you will learn the techniques of how to go about planning a new engineering research based business venture, meet some interesting people who have done it for real and have a lot of fun at the same time! The competition is free to enter, runs over three days and includes three nights full board at a nearby hotel. The 2011 East Midlands competition will run from the evening of Sunday 15th May through to the afternoon of Wednesday 18th May 2011 and the final will be held on 8th June 2011. A short briefing session will be held on the 11th April between 10am – 1pm.
Participation is free for you although Nottingham will pay a fee per researcher. We are hoping to take at least 2 teams, each ideally consisting of four to five researchers. There is no age limit, but Engineering YES is aimed at postgraduate research students and early career researchers within five years of obtaining their doctorate. Teams can include up to two post-doc members.
You may apply as an individual as we will allocate additional researchers to form teams.
