Education Young Thinker of the Year

The University has been invited to nominate a member of staff for the Young UK and Ireland Programme's Education Young Thinker of the Year event - to be held in Lancaster over the weekend of the 15-17 January 2010. The overall aim of the event is to develop talent in the workplace through stretching the minds, broadening the horizons, and developing the communication skills and confidence of people who are 18 or over (there is no upper age limit) and in the early stages of a career.

The Graduate School is supporting the attendance (registration and travel costs) for one member of research staff to participate in this event which will help them to:

  • Enhance their professional development

  • Make the best use of their interpersonal skills

  • Develop their written and verbal communication and their research capabilities

  • Benefit from fresh ideas and creativity

  • Gain the opportunity to compete for a prestigious title
Before the programme, the participant will be required to submit a paper(“Argument”) of around 900 words – six minutes when spoken – on a subject of his or her choice. The only stipulation is that the paper should be on an issue of current interest or controversy, not necessarily related to the delegate’s work or professional discipline.

Further details about the Education Young Thinker of the Year can be found at:

If you would like to be considered as the University’s nominee for this event please email me a 200 word abstract of the argument paper that you would present if you were selected as the University’s nominee. This should be sent to jane.wellens@nottingham.ac.uk by 5pm on Thursday 26 November. The successful applicant will be notified by Thursday 3 December 2009.
