Funded Student Internships 2009

Following a successful launch of the Visual Learning Lab (VLL) internship scheme in 2008/9, the VLL is inviting University of Nottingham students to apply for internship positions in 2009/10.

The VLL works with staff and students throughout the University to extend the use of visualisation as an important aspect of university learning. Many courses are already making innovative uses of visual methods to enhance student learning. Further information about the VLL can be found at www.visuallearninglab.ac.uk.

The VLL is seeking to recruit three further student interns to join the existing team. Start dates and working hours are negotiable, but the commitment is usually around 90 hours of work within a one year period. Successful applicants will be provided with support and training and given every opportunity to develop useful transferrable skills.

The role would involve the intern; actively promoting the work of the VLL, collaborating with current interns on key intern activities, contributing to VLL student induction and training on open access technologies (including video-editing equipment and the Thunder Wall), obtaining and recording feedback from students engaged in VLL activities, motivating, encouraging and supporting students engaged in VLL activities, helping to identify good practice in the VLL, engaging with and helping to develop the national student CETL network.

Applicants must be studying at the University of Nottingham, have an interest in learning and teaching and/or student development, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have a positive and flexible approach and a willingness to travel in connection with the role. Good IT skills are desirable, while the ability to work on your own initiative and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.

A start date will be agreed with each successful candidate. It is likely to be in the period May - July 2009, allowing some preparation and induction before the start of the 2009/10 academic year. The intern will earn £10 per hour for 90 hours of work (work pattern to be negotiated).

To discuss any aspect of this role, please contact either the VLL Office or one of the current team of student interns.
