One day free conference - Research Staff and Research Students who are New to Teaching

The University of Nottingham is holding a one-day conference for research students and research staff who are relatively new to teaching and who would like the opportunity to explore different teaching techniques. Previous attendees at the conference have identified the usefulness of the event for providing practical ideas and activities for teaching, to meet fellow part-time teachers and discuss experiences and for the opportunity to identify and register for further training courses.

The University recognises and values the important role played by part-time teachers in providing a stimulating and supportive learning environment for many undergraduate and postgraduate students. This is the sixth conference of its kind; the previous five attracted over 450 research students and staff and were highly rated by those who attended.

During the day you will have opportunities to engage with speakers about the role of part-time teachers and the needs of the students you teach. You will work with other participants to identify further training and development opportunities for yourself and participate in active and fun ‘taster’ sessions which will explore different aspects of teaching relevant to your teaching role. These include:

  • How Students Learn
  • Small Group Teaching
  • Large Group Lecturing
  • Using Your Voice Effectively
  • Marking Students’ Written Work
  • Developing Your Presentation Skills
These sessions will be very practical and provide a comfortable place to discuss issues, ask questions and develop your teaching skills.

This event is usually over-subscribed so book early by visiting: www.nottingham.ac.uk/sedu/onlinebooking/course/IEPRSRST
