What is a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant Award?
This award is designed to recognise and celebrate outstanding examples of teaching and/or the support of learning. Postgraduate research students who teach; either individually or as part of a group, are eligible to apply.
Who is eligible to receive an award?
The award is open to all Postgraduate Research Students who have made a significant contribution to the support of learning at the University of Nottingham. Nominees will either have direct contact with students or support teaching through, for example, demonstrating in laboratory classes, leading seminars or tutorials, lecturing or assessing and giving feedback on student work.
How many awards are granted?
Up to 3 awards in the form of a framed certificate and a £100 voucher from the Graduate School are presented annually. The bestowal of an award is recognised as a mark of distinction within the University.
How can I apply for an award?
You application should be a written overview of your teaching work which includes an explanation of why you have made an outstanding contribution to learning. Your application should provide a response to the following question: How have you improved the learning experience of your students by adopting a novel or different teaching approach? You may wish to discuss the issues that you identified in your teaching work and the changes you made to your teaching practice. Your application should be no longer than one page of A4. Deadline for submission of applications: 30th March 2009
How are the awards judged?
A panel of judges will consider all submissions and recommend a list of award winners. An award ceremony will take place on June 25th 2009 in the Graduate Centre from 10-11am. Winners are automatically excluded from receiving another award for the following year.
