Call for papers: Plymouth Postgraduate Symposium

The School of Law and Social Science, the Business School & School of Geography, The University of Plymouth

Friday 15 May 2009.

Deadline for submssion: 17 April 2009

Why Present? – The Aim of the Symposium

  • To provide postgraduate students with an opportunity to present a paper or poster in a friendly environment
  • To provide a forum where we can engage intellectually with those in other disciplines
To allow students to share their latest research findings, obtain feedback on research plans or exchange ideas on methodological innovation
  • To give students the chance of achieving a recognised publication (through the published proceedings of the symposium)
  • To rejuvenate our interest in our research and to have a break from the often solitary pursuit of conducting research
Abstract Submission:

Submitted abstracts should be no more than 250 words which, if accepted, will become the basis of a paper or poster to be presented at the symposium. Abstract should fall under one of the following topic areas: Business; Geography; Sociology; Social Policy; Criminal Justice; Law; International Relations or Politics.
Each presentation will last 20 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for questions.
Poster presentations are open to all postgraduate students but are a particularly good option for postgraduate taught students, first year PhD students and those who are unable to present a paper. Posters will be displayed at the symposium and there will be an opportunity for you to informally discuss your work with attendees.
As the submission process is competitive, the organising committee will review all received abstracts before deciding which applications have been successful. We will write to you and let you know if your abstract has been accepted for poster or paper presentations by early February 2009.

If you wish to present a Paper (20 minute presentation), please send your abstract along with your name, email address, school, supervisor(s), registration date and whether you are full or part-time student to michelle.jolley@plymouth.ac.uk

For those who wish to submit a Poster, please send your plans to till.paasche@plymouth.ac.uk

If you require any further information please contact one of the above named committee organisers or visit www.ppgs-research.org
